Hace un par de años, en septiembre tuve la oportunidad y el placer de visitar el norte de Italia con una amiga. Durante la semana que duró el viaje, nos hospedamos en un hotel de la ciudad de Verona, para posteriormente movernos por ciudades cercanas (Florencia o Firenze y Venecia o Venezia) de las cuales ya hablaré más adelante.
A couple of years ago in September I had the opportunity and pleasure of visiting the north of Italy with a friend. During the week-long trip, we stayed at a hotel in the city of Verona, to then move on nearby cities (Florence or Venice or Florence and Venice) of which I will speak later.
La fecha para realizar el viaje fue septiembre principalmente por precio y clima, ya que contratar un hotel en temporada alta (junio, julio y agosto) es más caro que en cualquier otro mes del año, y en cuanto al clima, porque todavía hay ese calor veraniego pero no es tan asfixiante como el que puede haber en agosto, por ejemplo.
A los menores de 26 años y que tengan el carné joven europeo, no os olvidéis de llevarlo con vosotros durante el viaje, ya que en muchos lugares, el precio de la entrada se podrá reducir hasta la mitad. Puede parecer insignificante pero al final del viaje, el dinero ahorrado no es poco.
Otro dato importante es que no en todos los establecimientos aceptan tarjetas de crédito para pagar, así que antes de nada, fijarse si tienen pegatinas en la entrada que indiquen que se puede realizar dicha operación con tarjeta o preguntar.

CÓMO LLEGAR (HOW TO ARRIVE)
Empezamos el viaje desde León (norte de España), contratado con la agencia Bentravel, que nos buscó el hotel y los billetes de avión. Cogimos un tren dirección Barcelona para posteriormente ir a Verona en avión que salía a medio día (15:50). Dicho tren era un TRENHOTEL de Butaca Confort, ya que pasábamos la noche de viaje y no queríamos gastar mucho en ese trayecto. El precio fue de 76€ (reserva y combinados en Renfe) con una duración de 7 horas y media aproximadamente. Una vez en la estación de trenes de Barcelona, se pueden dejar las maletas en consigna por 5€ para poder desplazarte por la zona si para tu siguiente tren o avión todavía faltan horas.
Aprovechando que estábamos en Barcelona Sants (la principal estación de trenes de la ciudad) y que no teníamos que estar en el aeropuerto hasta pasadas unas horas, fuimos a ver la Villa Olímpica, el Parque de Montjuic, la Plaza España, el Palacio Montjuic y sus alrededores.

We took a train to Barcelona then go to Verona by plane leaving at noon (15:50). This train was a HOTEL TRAIN of Armchair Comfort, and we spent the night traveling and do not want to spend much money on the route. Once the train station of Barcelona , you can leave the luggage in for 5€ to move around the area if for your next train or plane still missing hours.
Taking advantage of being of Barcelona Sants (the main train station of the city) and that there had to be at the airport until a few hours, we went to see the Olympic Village, Montjuic Park, Plaza Spain, the Montjuic Palace and surroundings.
Después de la pequeña visita turística por esta zona de Barcelona, llegó el momento de ir al aeropuerto. Recogimos las maletas de la consigna de la estación de tren y compramos un billete de cercanías para ir hasta allí. Los horarios de los cercanías y sus direcciones están puestos en pantalla. El precio del billete no recuerdo cuánto fue exactamente, pero rondaba los 2€.
NOTA: NO SIRVE EL BILLETE SI SE COMPRA CON MÁS DE DOS HORAS DE ANTELACIÓN A LA HORA PREVISTA DE SALIDA.
Para comer en el aeropuerto, nosotras tiramos de lo más barato, es decir, el McDonald's, y a la hora que nos indicaron, embarcamos. La compañía con la que fuimos fue Vueling, de bajo coste perteneciente a Iberia. Y hay que decir que a diferencia de tras compañías de bajo coste, la experiencia fue muy buena, sin ningún tipo de problema o incomodidad.
Llegadas a Verona, cogimos un taxi dirección a nuestro Hotel Porta Palio en el cual nos hospedamos durante 7 noches. El precio del taxi fue de 24€ más o menos, ya que llegamos por al tarde noche y hay otra tarifa, además del extra por maleta y el desplazamiento en sí.
Contratamos el desayuno en el hotel, por lo que por las mañanas, nos levantábamos pronto y desayunábamos todo lo que queríamos, ya que era buffet libre. Conexión WiFi. Se encuentra a 20 minutos andando del centro y a otros 20 de la estación de trenes de Verona. El hotel dispone de una caja fuerte en cada habitación, pero para su uso se debe pedir la llave en recepción y dejar una fianza de 50€. También saber que en Italia desde hace unos años, cobran un extra por extranjero no añadido al precio de la habitación, el cual suele ser 3€ por persona hasta la 5º noche. A partir de la 5º no cobran nada. Es decir, si pasáis una semana allí, deberéis pagar 15€ a mayores. Avisan en recepción al llegar.
After the little touristic visit through this area of Barcelona, it was time to go to the airport. We collected our bags from the luggage of the train station and bought a ticket to go near there. Nearby schedules and addresses are on display. The ticket can not remember exactly how much, but was around 2€.

To eat at the airport, we ate from the cheapest, ie McDonald's, and when they told us, boarded. The company I went to Italy was Vueling, low cost belonging to Iberia. We must say that unlike low cost companies, the experience was very good, without any problems or discomfort.
When we arrived in Verona, we took a taxi towards our Hotel Porta Palio where we stayed for 7 nights. Taxi fare was 24€ more or less as we arrived by the late evening and there are other fees, plus extra for luggage and displacement itself.
We contract breakfast at the hotel, so in the morning, we got up early and had breakfast all we wanted because it was free buffet. WiFi connection. It is 20 minutes walk from the center and another 20 from Verona train station. The hotel has a safe in every room but for use it, you must ask for the key at reception and leave a deposit of 50€. We also know that in Italy a few years ago, charge extra for foreign not added to the price of the room, which is usually 3€ per person to the 5th night. From the 5th not charge anything. QUÉ VER (THINGS TO SEE)
Verona es una de las ciudades más importantes del norte del país, tanto en el ámbito económico, como turístico, patrimonial e histórico. También es conocida por la famosa obra de Shakespeare "Romeo y Julieta" es frecuentada por parejas de todas las edades y de todos los rincones del mundo, para visitar las casas y tumbas de ambos protagonistas de la historia y dejar sus mensajes de amor. Además, es ciudad natal del famoso compositor Salieri, rival de Mozart.
Comenzamos por la Porta Nuova de Verona, que se encuentra a cinco minutos desde el hotel al que se hace referencia en esta entrada, y además, está de camino al centro de la ciudad.
Siguiendo todo recto por Stradone Porta Palio, llegamos al Castelvecchio, en cuyo interior se encuentra el Ponte Scaligero (su nombre se debe a la forma de sus paredes, escalonada) que comunica la ciudad con la otra orilla del río Adigio. En dicha orilla se encuentra un parque, muy agradable para descansar en los días más calurosos, y con mucho ambiente joven. Aprovechad la vista que hay desde el Ponte Scaligero para sacar fotos a amabas orillas de la ciudad.
Verona is one of the most important cities in the north of Italy, in the economic sphere, as a tourist, historical and heritage. It is also known for the famous Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" and it is frequented by couples of all ages and from all corners of the world to visit the homes and graves of both protagonists of the story and leave your message of love. Moreover, it is home to the famous composer Salieri, Mozart's rival.
We begin with the Verona Porta Nuova, located five minutes from the hotel to which reference is made in this post, and also is on the way to downtown.
Following straight on Stradone Porta Palio, arrived at Castelvecchio, inside which the Ponte Scaligero (its name comes from the shape of its walls, stepped) connecting the city to the other shore of the Adigio river is located. On that shore there is a park, very nice to relax on warmer days, and very young vibe. Seize the view from Ponte Scaligero there to take pictures on both sides of the city.
Dejando el Castelvecchio atrás, seguimos por Corso Cavour de seguido dirección a la Piazza delle Erbe. Mientras tanto, uno se puede fijar en la arquitectura de los edificios de la zona, así como en las bocacalles típicas italianas, y comprobar que mantiene su atractivo histórico.
Para guiarnos a lo largo de la calle y llegar a dicha Piazza, nos toparemos con la Porta Borsari , la cual en la época romana la entrada principal a la ciudad. Está hecha de piedra caliza blanca natural de la zona, y en sus inicios, contaba hasta con un patio interior.
Leaving the Castelvecchio back, continue along Corso Cavour followed towards the Piazza delle Erbe. Meanwhile, one can observe the architecture of the buildings in the area, as well as typical Italian side streets, and check that retains its historic appeal.
To guide us along the road and come to Piazza said, we will find the Porta Borsari, which in Roman times the main entrance to the city. It is made of natural white limestone of the area, and initially, counted to a courtyard.
Una vez cruzada la Porta Borsari, continuamos por la misma calle hasta que llegamos a la Piazza delle Erbe, la más antigua de la ciudad. Durante el trayecto, destacar la cantidad de pequeñas establecimientos y comercios, así como de cafés y tiendas tanto artesanales como de diseño. Una vez en la plaza, tendremos muchas cosas por ver. Empezando por los edificios, cada uno de ellos presenta diferentes tipos de arquitectura y estilos que han pasado por allí a lo largo de los años.
Encontramos el Palazzo Maffei de estilo barroco:
Once across the Porta Borsari, continue along the road until we reached the Piazza delle Erbe, the oldest in the city. Así como el antiguo Ayuntamiento, la Torre dei Lamberti, a la cual se puede acceder y disfrutar de las vistas de Verona desde lo alto. Con mas de 80 metros de altura, destaca sobre todo el casco histórico antiguo de la ciudad. La entrada cuesta 6€ por persona, pero con el carné joven (mencionado anteriormente más arriba) cuesta 4.5€. Nada más adquirir la entrada para subir a la torre, la depositas en una pequeña máquina de seguridad (tipo las que hay en los metros de las grandes ciudades) y tienes la opción de subir el primer fragmento del recorrido en ascensor (243 escalones) y el resto andando (125 escalones), o todo a pie (368 escalones). Experiencia propia: Subir a pie todo. Es agotador pero merece la pena, y se disfruta mucho más una vez allí arriba.

En el lado noroeste de la plaza, se encuentra un edificio cuya fachada está basada en el Capitolio romano, con un gran número de pinturas al fresco. Justo en frente, se encuentra la Fontana della Madonna:

A lo largo de la plaza y sólo días concretos de la semana, se establece un mercado, en el cual puedes comprar tanto souvenirs para amigos y familiares, como joyería de cristal de murano (típico de Italia), vasos de frutas (muy refrescantes y recomendables para los calurosos días de verano) y pasta italiana.
Throughout the square and only specific days of the week, there is a market where you can buy both souvenirs for friends and family as Murano glass jewelry (typical of Italy), fruit cups (very refreshing is established and recommended for hot summer days) and Italian pasta.
Una vez en la Piazza, tenemos dos opciones: (Once in the Piazza, we have two options:)
- Si decidimos seguir recto nos encontraremos con la Casa de Julieta (Casa de Giulietta). En la propia entrada a la Casa veremos que las paredes están llenas de pintadas y mensajes de amor que tanto parejas como solteros dejan en ellas. A pesar del atractivo turístico que tiene, cuidado con tocas mucho las paredes, ya que se llegan a pegar chicles y tiritas para poder escribir nombres y que se vea. En el patio que hay en la entrada, hay una estatua de Julieta a la cual, según cuenta la tradición, si quieres encontrar el amor verdadero y volver a Verona, deberás tocar su seno derecho.
- If we decide to go straight we find Juliet's House (Casa de Giulietta). NOTA: Suele estar abarrotada de turistas ansiosos por hacerse una foto con dicha estatua, por lo que o se tiene paciencia, o encontrar la mejor hora a la que poder ir y hacerse una foto con Julieta sin problema.

En cuanto a la Casa de Julieta en sí, está muy bien ambientada en la historia, con la decoración propia de la época, y con la vestimenta de los personajes de la obra. Por toda la Casa, se encuentran fragmentos de la obra escritos en inglés sobre madera. Y como no, ¡el famoso balcón de Julieta, tan característico de la historia.! Hoy en día, se puede contraer matrimonio allí por 1000€ (informarse en Comune di Verona). El precio de la entrada a la Casa de Julieta con el carné joven es de 4.5€.
Regarding Juliet's House, is well set in history, with the decoration of the time, and the clothing of the characters in the book. By the entire house, fragments of written book in English on wood. - La otra opción es dirigirnos por la calle que sale por el centro de un lateral de la Piazza delle Erbe y nos lleva a la Piazza dei Signori, la cual se reconoce por la existencia de un arco que uno la Torre dei Lamberti con el edificio de la izquierda (el de frescos), y de él cuelga una costilla de ballena, que según cuenta en la leyenda, caerá sobre la primera persona que sea justa que pase por debajo.

Esta plaza también es conocida como la Plaza de Dante, debido a la estatua de Dante Alighieri que se encuentra en el centro de la misma.

Volviendo al callejero de Verona, por la calle de Stradone Porta Palio y Corso Cavour, encontramos justo en el medio la Vía Roma, que nos llevará hasta la el Anfiteatro Arena di Verona y a la Piazza Brà en la que se encuentra. De camino por esta calle se encuentra el Teatro Filarmónico de Verona, que destaca por sus espectáculos.
En el Anfiteatro Arena de Verona durante los meses de verano se llevan a cabo espectáculos de óperas. Son tan conocidas, que las entradas se sacan con meses de antelación y agotando entradas en todas y cada una de ellas. Os dejo el link para comprar las entradas AQUÍ.
IMPORTANTE: Algunos hoteles ofrecen servicio de transporte para estas ocasiones, facilitando la movilidad y comodidad de los asistentes. Infórmese en recepción.
En cuanto al precio de la entrada de visita al Anfiteatro, desconozco cuánto es exactamente, pero también es recomendable llevar el carné joven de nuevo para posibles descuentos.
Returning to street of Verona, down the street from Stradone Porta Palio and Corso Cavour, found right in the middle Via Roma, which leads to the Arena di Verona Amphitheatre and the Piazza Bra where is. On the way down this street is the Verona Philharmonic Theatre, noted for their shows.

Algo curioso e interesante, sobre todo para los amantes de la literatura de Shakespeare, es que por toda la ciudad nos encontramos fragmentos de la obra de "Romeo y Julieta" sobre bronce, en inglés.
Something curious and interesting, especially for lovers of literature from Shakespeare, is that throughout the city we find fragments of the play "Romeo and Juliet" on bronze, in English.
En dicha Piazza también se encuentra el actual ayuntamiento de Verona en el Palazzo Barbieri. Es un buen lugar para sentarse en sus escaleras a la sombra para descansar tras un largo paseo.
Para todos los amantes del shopping, todas las calles de alrededor de la Piazza Brà están repletas de tiendas de cualquier marca. Hay mucho donde elegir.
Casi al otro lado de la ciudad, encontramos el Ponte Pietra, que es el único puente de época romana que queda en la ciudad y comunica el resto de la ciudad que se encuentra al otro lado del río. Una vez más, las vistas desde el puente, son magníficas.
In this Piazza is also the current City Hall of Verona in the Palazzo Barbieri. It is a good place to sit on her stairs in the shade to rest after a long walk.
For all lovers of shopping, all streets around Piazza Brà are full of shops of any brand. Much to choose.
Almost the other side of the city, we find the Ponte Pietra, which is the only Roman bridge remaining in the city and connects the rest of the city that lies just across the river. Again, the view from the bridge, are magnificent.
Y una vez cruzado, estaremos de camino al Teatro Romano y al Castillo de San Pietro. En cuanto a éste último, no lo llegamos a encontrar ya que nos perdimos con la señalización. Respecto al teatro romano, si vais en septiembre, podéis disfrutar de ensayos y espectáculos de baile al aire libre en el propio teatro. También dispone de un pequeño museo romano, con todo tipo de objetos y restos de esculturas de la época.
And once crossed, we'll be on our way to the Roman Theatre and the Castle of San Pietro. As regards the latter, what we fail to find as we missed the signs. Regarding Roman theater, if you go in September, you can enjoy dance rehearsals and performances outdoors in the theater itself. It also has a small Roman museum, with all kinds of objects and remains of sculptures from the period.
DÓNDE COMER (WHERE TO EAT)
A la otra orilla del Ponte Pietra, hay una gran variedad de restaurantes de comida tradicional, muy asequibles, con un buen servicio, y de buena calidad. Es más barato debido a que es una zona menos turística.
Para picar entre horas, además de las heladerías que hay por la zona centro, también hay pequeños establecimientos en los que venden porciones de pizzas de todos los tipos. Muy ricas.
Recordad lo de las tarjetas de crédito. También sabed que cada local cobra 2€ por cubierto por persona, es decir, si pedís un plato de 15€, os cobrarán 17€. En otros establecimientos si pedís agua fría y os traen hielo, sabed que también os lo van a cobrar. A pesar de todo, no podéis iros de Italia sin tomar un café expreso, riquísimo.
No os olvidéis de dejar propina si la comida y el servicio os ha parecido agradable.
En cualquier sitio a los españoles nos entienden mejor hablando en nuestro idioma que intentando comunicarnos con ellos en inglés. Además, por lo general, l@s italian@s son muy simpáticos y agradables.
Many of those who we travel, we try to make the price of meals is not very high and at the same time to eat well. The truth is that in Verona, is not very cheap eat restaurant, but there are some pretty affordable places and which food is pretty good (2 lasagne and 2 liter water bottles: 17.5€). One is the restaurant there right in front of the Philharmonic Theatre.
On the other side of the Ponte Pietra, there are a variety of restaurants serving traditional, very affordable food, good service, and good quality. It is cheaper because it is a less touristy area.
For snacking, plus ice cream stops the downtown area, there are also small establishments that sell lots of pizzas of all types. Very yummy.
Remember what happen with the credit cards. We also know that each local charges 2 € per person, ie if ask a plate of 15€, 17€ will be charged. In other establishments if you ask will bring cold water and ice, I also know that it will charge. Nevertheless, you can not go away from Italy without taking an express, great coffee.
Do not forget to leave a tip if the food and service you think of nice.
Anywhere the people understand the Spanish speaking our language better than trying to communicate with them in English. Furthermore, usually, the italians are very friendly and nice.
CURIOSIDADES (CURIOSITIES)
Para los amantes de la literatura y del séptimo arte, en Verona transcurre la romántica y trágica historia de Romeo y Julieta escrita por Shakespeare, por lo que en toda la ciudad se encuentran fragmentos de la obra grabados en piedra.
Respecto al cine, en Verona fue rodada parte de la película "Cartas a Julieta", protagonizada por Amanda Seyfried. Recorre algunos de los lugares más románticos y turísticos de la ciudad, pero no os engañéis, los lugares que visita la protagonista, siempre están abarrotados de gente.
For lovers of literature and cinema, in Verona happens romantic and tragic story of Romeo and Juliet written by Shakespeare, so citywide fragments of the work are set in stone.
Regarding cinema, Verona was shot part of the film "Letters to Juliet" starring Amanda Seyfried. Covers some of the most romantic and sights of the city, but not deceived, the places you visit the protagonist, are always overcrowded.
